Best known as an aphrodisiac,

oysters have remained unchanged for centuries and are often regarded as the perfect raw food. In the early 19th century, oysters were cheap and mainly eaten by the working class but due to scarcity prices increased, converting them from their original role as the poor mans food to their current status as an expensive delicacy.

When Montreal restaurateur,

Tim Rozon (Garde Manger) asks the question:What’s the big deal with oysters? He is given more than he bargained for from Daniel Notkin, a local and passionate oyster shucker.

Together the pair set out on the road

to Oyster restaurants, festivals and farms to meet the craziest, most eccentric and well-known oyster shuckers and restaurateurs in the business including Rodney and Eamon Clark, Patrick McMurray, Chuck Hughes, John Bil and Oyster Bob.

Oyster shuckers are often regarded as the rock stars of the culinary world

Shuck,shuck,shuck!

With hundreds of thousands of people attending oyster festivals each year they often become booze filled, explosive out of control parties. Daniel is insistent on immersing Tim into this magical world by entering him in shucking competitions, meeting the growers and making sure Tim gets his feet wet. By the time Daniel is through with him, Tim will get his answer.
